Metallica: WTF am I doing at this shit?

So I've gone to a few concerts this year and all have been pretty good. I normally don't listen to or like much heavy metal, I'm more of a punk rock hip hop dude, but when the opportunity comes up to see bands that are considered "Legends" I generally will go check them out just cause it pretty much guarantees a good show. So when a friend asked a few months ago if I wanted to see these head slammin homeboys, I said yes.

Not not only is it a prime opportunity to see some awesome music played live but the people watching pretty much makes it worth the price of admission alone. Every one and their grandpa(literally there was a dude on the floor who had to be 60) was at this show. These fans were pretty diverse from old bikers, to old metal heads still "livin the dream", to their fans that grew up and now wear flip flop, shorts and play golf. Where it has to be kind of disappointing to them to see there fan base get so old over the years it also has to put them at ease in some ways. I mean now the band can do things they were never able to do when the hardcore fans were younger, like smile on the stage when they are having a good time and ask the audience to clap during the songs(cause that's so metal!).

With that all said the show was pretty good. I mean the opening bands were pure garbage. The 1st band I don't even know and the second was Lamb of God. I'm pretty sure they just played one 30 min song because all the music sounded the same and all the singer did was growl and yell.

Then came the main event. Metallica took to the stage, and where I haven't really followed these guys in a while there was the shock of seeing James Hetfield with pretty much a snow white goatee. These guys were probably the loudest band I have ever seen in my life. I considered for a moment buying earplugs, and that pretty bad seeing as how I have seen dozens of bands in my life and have never needed them.

The show was pretty good they covered most of their albums with the exception of load, reload and St Anger( I think all albums they would like to forget) They sang some songs I knew and chanted along to, and a bunch I didn't know but liked. The set ended with one encore and about 20 min of them hanging around after they were done throwing out guitar pics and stuff. They clocked in at about 2 1/2 hours.

Over all I had a good time and was glad I got the experience of seeing the kings of metal live. Don't know if I would see em again but I would recommend seeing em at least once.
