So over the last few months I have hit a wall as far as motivation goes. A few things have changed in my life that have left me for the time being not wanting to go out much or do anything much more than coming home from work at night and throwing a DVD on to veg out too. Sometimes movies I wanna see, sometimes movies I can't remember if I liked, and some times just shit I can't believe exists unless I see it my self. So WTF might as well blog about these movies. We'll call last nights feature the 1st one. So here goes:
St. Elmo's Fire - Might as well have called this St. Emo's Fire cause all it was about is a bunch of bratty kids who piss and moan cause post college life isn't turning out the way they dreamed. Join the fuckin club kiddo's it doesn't get much better into your 30th either.
So these lil dirt bags consisting of the brat pack(I don't feel the need to list them cause anyone reading this is going to be old enough to know who they are) Graduate from college and all hang out in this lil bar when they get sloshed and talk about how awesome there 20's and the 80's are going to be(WRONG on both accounts).
1st we have Emilio Estevez as Kirby - This freggin nut job starts out working in the bar and studying to be a lawyer. He meets Andie MacDowell, who I guess he went out on a date with back in the day and get all stalker obsessed over her despite the fact that she is dating some older dude. Kirbster changes to studying the medical field, gets a job and throws a party to impress Andie and when she doesn't show(in true stalker form) he drives to where she is to confront her, finally realizes she ain't gonna get with him, plants a kiss on her and goes about his life.
Next we have Judd Nelson and the(attractive back in the day) Ally Sheedy as Alec and Leslie- This adorable couple apparently have been dating since college and Alec(the leader of the group of misfits) is a democrat who works for a congress man but turns republican. Also in a shocking turn of events he cheats on Leslie all the time but has been Nobel enough to ask her to marry him(what a fuckin stand up guy he is). Anyway Leslie isn't into marrying him and long story short finds out he's cheating and decided to do the right thing by calling off the marriage and gettin a lil one night stand action in with Andrew McCarthy.
Andrew McCarthy plays Kevin- Kevin is your typical deep, artistic, depressed struggling writer who searches for the meaning of life while having a puppy dog crush on Ally Sheedy. He really does nothing eventful in the movie other than get dangled over a fire escape by Judd Nelson.
Mare Winningham(who?) plays Wendy - A virgin who is so into Rob Lowe(what girl wasn't in those days) that she constantly gives him money and bails him out of situations. Shes a sucker and finally at the end in a shocking turn of events gives up her virginity to him after he pays her back some money he owes her(now thats love people)
Demi Moore plays Jules - This fuckin train wreck works at a bank, gets too many cash advances so she can buy cloths and coke(not cola) that she ends up poor. Oh and some step mother that she hates is making her pay for the funeral(the step mothers) when she dies so Jules is always thinking of cheap ways out of it. Her story comes to a head when she starts bangin her boss, gets fired and locks herself in her apartment with a fan on her in a poor attempt at killing herself. But don't worry about her, Rob Lowe comes in tells some lame ass story about St. Elmo's Fire and makes a fire burst with some hairspray and a lighter and then all is well.
Rob Lowe - I saved this disaster for last because he was the most fun. Apparently he is married with a kid but f's around with anyone that will have him. He tries with class to seduce Demi Moore by throwing her car keys down his pants. He plays sax and is in a hack band. He can't hold a job, he actually goes back to his college to hang out with people he use to know. His story comes to a head when his wife throws him out and he comes to the realization that he is meant to be a musician in NY. Because as we all know its cheaper to live there and jobs are plenty full so he can quit as many as he wants. So he somehow comes up with enough money to pay Wendy back(so he can take her virginity) and pay for a bus ticket to NY.
All and all this movie is good despite the fact that I lay into it. I do wonder why none of these brat packers never went anywhere. They weren't bad actors, I guess just victims of being in teen dramas. Who knows.
